Our journey began with the inauguration of the Endoscopy Unit on 18th December 2017. This unit remains the country's only purpose-built facility for endoscopy procedures. Endoscopy involves the use of a thin, flexible tube with a camera to examine and treat gastrointestinal and liver-related diseases. It's a minimally invasive technique suitable for both stable and critically ill patients, offering advantages over traditional surgical methods.
In addition to our core services, we've placed significant emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis C – the leading cause of liver-related mortality in Mauritius. Collaborating closely with governmental and non-governmental units, we've worked to combat stigma, improve access to care, and provide state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for patients living with Hepatitis C.
Furthermore, we've embraced digitalization to enhance our services, introducing innovative changes that have dramatically improved the delivery of patient care. This journey reached a milestone with the inauguration of the Centre for Gastroenterology and Hepatology on 28th July 2023.
